SMWS 1.198 Night nurse in carpenter's overalls
1.198 Night nurse in carpenter's overalls, 21 YO, 55,2 %
I do love to try independent bottlings that are a bit out of the ordinary. Here we have a 21 YO Glenfarclas matured in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead. Not something you come across very often in the official bottlings. Glenfarclas tend to be all about the ex-sherry casks.
The 1.198 Night nurse in carpenter's overalls was distilled on 1993-09-23 and bottled in 2015. The outturn was 176 bottles.
Here are the tasting notes from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS):
The nose oozed honey sweetness (Manuka, Demerara, Daim bars, trifle) with dried fruit depth (raisins, dates, figs, Christmas cake); plus hints of carpenter’s overalls. The palate’s taste explosion had similar themes – syrupy dates and clootie dumplings, with dried cranberries, lime and sour apple providing an interesting and rather pleasant cheek-pulling, tannic tug; followed by a lingering finish of espresso, walnuts and ginger.
I bought this bottle for GBP 82.
Nose (22/25): Fruit dessert, apples and pears in simple syrup. Honey and chocolate flake drizzle. Hints of dried fruits and oak.
Taste (22/25): Rich, oily and full mouthfeel. Fruity and sugar sweet. Mildly spicy - white pepper and ginger. Very smooth!
Finish (23/25): Warm and long finish. Sugary ashes?! Fruity, mild and mellow. Sticky toffee, honey, milk chocolate and vanilla ice cream...
Balance (22/25): Delightful and different.
Score (89/100)
