Teeling 2008 13 YO Single Cask 68523 for WhiskyNet.hu, 57.3 %

This whiskey was initially matured in a ex-sherry hogshead, then received a 4 month finish in a 1st fill ex-Tokaj cask from Patricius. Bottled at cask strength 57.3 % ABV in January 2022, and limited to 282 bottles. An exclusive for the Hungarian market and WhiskyNet. You can still get a bottle from whiskynet.hu at around € 100.

Nose: An intense nose at first sniff. Some alcohol rawness, but that dissipates soon enough. Rich and fruity - lots of ripe orchard fruits, as well as dried fruits. Vanilla and honey sweetness. With time it reveals a more earthy side, as well as lighter notes of grape and tropical fruits. Hints of chocolate as well.

Taste: Full bodied and rich. Again a hint of rawness a first, but it is only a brief wave, before the sweet fruitiness take over. Mostly dried fruits now, as well as sugary sweetness.

Finish: Medium to long finish. More of the same, but it seems the volume is turned up for a while, then we go in for a long and gentle landing. All manner of orchard fruits, sweet berries and dried fruits. Some spices added to the mix towards the end, and the honey from the nose make a welcome return.

Comment: An unusual Teeling, but I really enjoyed the honey influence from the Tokaji cask.
