Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt

Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt, NAS, 46 %

teeling-blackpitts-peated-single-malt.png

This is an Irish triple distilled single malt whiskey, aged in bourbon casks and Sauternes casks.

Teeling has revealed that the inspiration for this whisky was the Teeling 24 YO, which was slightly peated. In creating this whiskey Teeling tried to source Irish peat, but ended up with Lowland peat from Scotland, peated to 55 ppm. SInce this is a triple distilled whisky we can still not expect this to come across as very peated.

There is no age statement on the Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt but it is a fairly young whisky at just under 5 years old for the most part.

This product is part of what Teeling calls their Unconventional Collection. See more info on the official product page.

You can buy the Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt in Norway at NOK 750 (12822801), in Sweden at SEK 599 (11675), and online at around € 60.

Nose: Initially it feels more like oak - no toasted oak, rather than peat. With time I also pick up a fruity sweetness behind the “toastedness”. With time more smoky and peaty.

Taste: Medium body. A lot drier than what I typically find Teeling to be. Sugary and peppery ashes. Orchard fruits and grape juice. Then chocolate. Chocolate!

Finish: Medium long finish. Continues much as it started. The ashes do dissipate and it becomes even lighter and more fruity. A touch green in the end.

Comment: A really great introduction dram to both peated whiskey and Irish quality whiskey.

Score 87/100
