Teerenpeli Hiiden Hirvi
Teerenpeli Hiiden Hirvi, NAS, 50.7 %
This is te second of three releases in the Rum Cask Whisky Trilogy from Finnish distillery Teerenpeli. The other two releases in the series are Lemmon Lintu and Mustarinta. This whisky, the Teerenpeli Hiiden Hirvi, has been finished for about 2 years in ex-rum casks. According to Google Translate “Hiiden Hirvi” means “moose”, which I guess explains the label. See more details on their official product page.
Nose: Step into a forest right after rain – cool and earthy vibes everywhere. It's like scooping up damp leaves or getting a whiff of fresh sawdust. Toss in some nutmeg and dark chocolate hints. Let it breathe, and you might feel like you've stumbled into grandma's attic with that dusty, old cardboard and a hint of mushrooms.
Taste: Dive in and it’s rich. The earthiness carries on, spiced up with black pepper and a touch of burnt caramel. There’s a nutty vibe, with a side of classic oakiness.
Finish: Sticks around for a good while. The spicy edge mellows down, making room for that toasted bread and caramel duo. And just before the curtain drops, it treats you to those damp, earthy leafy notes, wrapping up on the drier side.
Comment: This is Autumn in a bottle.
