Timorous Beastie 18 YO

I have today put another Regional Malt with an age statement on the test bench. The Remarkable regional malts is a series of blended malts from independent bottler Douglas Laing. The Timorous Beastie represents the Highland region. I have previously reviewed the NAS version here, as well as the 21 YO sherry edition and the 40 YO exclusive.

Anyways, I am looking at the Timorous Beastie 18 YO today. It is a limited release of 7258 bottles. There is no further info on type of casks used.

You can buy a bottle of the Timorous Beastie 18 YO in Norway at NOK 795 (7792901), or online at around GBP 69. It is currently not available in Sweden.

Nose: Spicy, dusty and a bit scruffy at first sniff. The beastie has gotten old, maybe too old? Nah. There is still a lot of life left in the timorous one. Cool fruitiness, vanilla, old books and a barbecue in the distance. There's an 'edge' of something here - a glint in the beastie's eye.

Taste: Creamy and full bodied mouthfeel. Honey and cream - maybe I should say milk and honey. Quite a decent amount of spicy notes - black pepper, cinnamon and ginger first and foremost.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Cool, mouth numbing feel. Maybe I can convince my dentist to use this as a local anesthetic next time? Vanilla and chocolate on top of the initial creamy-honey-spiciness.

Comments: An older beast, still alive and kicking - and rather well-behaved.
