This is my first review of an expression from the newly established independent bottler Dràm Mòr Group. This company was established in 2019 and are located in Dumbarton, Scotland.

The Tomintoul 15 YO (Dràm Mòr) has been matured for 15 years in a refill sherry butt and then finished for four months in a 1st Fill Sauternes Barrique (cask #32). The total outturn was 317 bottles.

This whisky can be bought through various outlets in several European countries, and the price is around GBP 90.

Nose: Ooh la la. I like the light, fluffy clouds of fruitiness here. I feel welcome. I feel enticed. I feel like diving in! Red berries, soft wine notes, hints of dried fruits and citrus. Wet leaves, dunnage warehouse, ripe apples and pears. Softly vegetal and green.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Rather spicy up front, but this is quickly matched by a deep fruitiness and honey sweetness. White pepper, mild chili, dried fruits and ripe pears. I get cinnamon and dried apricots, as well as almond paste. I feel I am not far off target when I credit the Sauternes cask for the sweet top notes that really lift the palate here.

Finish: Medium long finish. Dries up fairly quickly, and changes character. Softly astringent now. And a little green and herbal around the edges. Towards the end the sweet fruitiness is back, accompanied by honey glazed nuts and cocoa nibs.

Comment: Delightful and light.
