Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum Cask Finish

Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum Cask Finish, NAS, 43 %

An Irish whiskey on the menu today. The Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum Cask Finish.

Let’s jump straight to the official info which reads:

XO Rum Cask Finish is our Tullamore D.E.W. Original triple distilled triple blend of pot still, malt and grain Irish whiskey finished in the finest first fill XO rum casks to deliver sweet tropical flavours.

From what I hear we will be able to buy this whiskey in Norway (and Sweden?) some time next year.

Nose: Soft and delicate. This is the kind of whisky that caresses the nose. It tickles in a pleasant way. Tropical fruits (lemon, lime and banana), vanilla and sugary sweetness. It also has darker notes of earthiness and even rhubarb. You can definitely detect the rum influence on the nose.

Taste: Rich and full bodied beyond its 43 % ABV. On the palate the sweetness is at the front. Sugar, vanilla and tropical fruits. Mild spiciness.

Finish: Medium long finish. Dry on the finish. Burnt caramel and bitter oranges. Also a touch of perfume and oak towards the end.

Comment: Comes across as more complex and sweeter than the regular Tullamore D.E.W., especially on the nose.

Score 84/100
