Yamazaki Limited Edition 2016

The "hype" of Japanese whisky does not seem to be going away anytime soon. There are very few whiskies with age statements available from the likes of Suntory and Nikka nowadays. So we have to settle for the, possibly, less exciting NAS whiskies. Today I am reviewing a special edition from Suntory; the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2016.

I found this short description of the product on The Whisky Exchange:

"The 2016 release of Yamazaki's annual Limited Edition bottling. A blend of young, bourbon-barrel-aged whisky with older single malt aged in sherry and port casks."

You can buy a bottle of the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2016 online at around € 200.

Nose: Soft and shy. Really takes  a while to open up. Notes of toasted oak, chocolate, dried fruits and coconut oil. Citrus, light earthiness and some sort of fresh berries gradually appear. It started off as not very complex, and rather closed up, but turns into a very decent symphony of aromas.

Taste: Soft and smooth mouthfeel, with medium body. Exotic spices, citrus and milk chocolate. On further sipping I also find fresh, red berries and orchard fruits.

Finish: Medium long finish. Slightly darker now. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, ginger and green tea.

Comments: A decent dram with a charming nose. Too pricey for what you get, but stick the name Yamazaki on a bottle and it will sell like crazy no matter the price tag.
