The Balvenie 12 YO Doublewood is a core range product from this Speyside distillery. It is called 'doublewood' because it has first been matured in refill American oak casks before receiving a finish in 1st fill European oak Sherry casks.

Nose: Cool and reserved. Fruity - with banana and pears at the forefront. Hints of lime in the background. Almond milk. Milk chocolate and vanilla. With time I also detect fruity syrup, honey and malt.

Taste: Medium body. Honey and white pepper. The fruits now come across mainly as apples. Icing sugar, vanilla and ginger.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Mild caramel notes. Creamy vanilla ice-cream with honey glaze. Mild oakiness towards the end.

Comments: Light delight.
