Bivrost Jotunheim Arctic Single Malt Whisky
Bivrost Jotunheim Arctic Single Malt Whisky, NAS, 46 %
Bivrost Jotunheim is the fourth whisky in the “nine worlds of Norse mythology” series.
Here’s a bit of info from the official product page:
“DISTILLED: Triple distilled in 2017/2018, with two active plates in our copper pot/column still. Average distillation time ranges between 8 – 10 hours, average strength heart collected of undiluted new make is around ~75%abv.
CASK HANDLING: Jotunheim is matured in predominantly bourbon quarter casks and barrels from Heaven Hill but were finished in some Ex Stout Beer Casks from Graff micro brewery.”
This whisky was released November 2, 2021, and is long sold out.
Nose: Nuts, coffee and vanilla is what first hits me. Then a wave of caramel, chocolate and hints of dark, malty beer. With time both salt, pepper and toasted oak.
Taste: Medium to light body. Dry-ish in character with lots of coffee, dark chocolate, white pepper and earthy vanilla. Malty as well.
Finish: Medium to short finish. More of the same. Coffee and chocolate dominate. It feels rather young-ish in the end. Some alcohol rawness.
Comment: The beer casks certainly make a “splash”, if you will.
