Blended Malt 1988 34 YO (Spheric Spirits)

Blended Malt 1988 34 YO (Spheric Spirits), 47.4 %

Distilled 1988, matured in a single unspecified refill hogshead (cask #10), and bottled 2022. Limited to 336 bottles.

This blended malt is in fact a tea spooned single malt from an undisclosed distillery (most likely Ben Nevis). I’ve tasted this one side by side with a 25 YO Ben Nevis from Single Malt Dreams, and I must say I feel quite certain.

Nose: Refined, structured, and complex—layered fruitiness meets deep sweetness and a whisper of light oak. With time, intriguing notes of Penicillin (the cocktail), mango, and peaches emerge, complemented by dusty oak.

Taste: Full-bodied with a beautifully harmonious fruitiness. Fresh and tropical, yet grounded by a soft, dusty oak character. Green undertones of cut grass and fresh herbs add vibrancy.

Finish: Long and evolving. Becomes slightly drier and oakier, with black and white pepper adding warmth. Dark chocolate with a luscious raspberry jam filling lingers on the palate.

Comment: A delightful, multi-faceted dram.
