Glen Garioch 1998 18 YO (Adelphi), 57.5 %
..and here is an independent bottling of Glen Garioch from Adelphi. This is a vintage 1998, bottled 2016. It was matured in a single 1st fill Spanish oak ex-sherry hogshead (cask #3739), yielding a total of 241 bottles.
Nose: Apples, Tiger Balm (menthol and eucalyptus - in your face!) and soft oakiness. Meat and vegetable broth. Vanilla, white pepper and almonds. The nose is a bit all over the place, but it does hit a lot of right spots - either by blind luck or a confusing level of precision.
Taste: Full bodied and creamy mouthfeel. Feels a bit medicinal actually - a mix of menthol, iodine, and herbs. Rich caramel with a touch of earthiness. Somewhat dry.
Finish: Long finish. Deep and dark sweetness. Caramel, slightly burnt notes, orange marmalade. Dark chocolate and white pepper.
Comment: This is good!
