A lot has changed at the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown since I first visited back in 2011. They have new owners, they have refurbished and cleaned up the distillery, and they have re-branded and launched new products. What looked very much dead and forgotten only a few years back is now very much alive.

So it is time to have a closer look at one of their “new” products, the Glen Scotia 15 YO which was launched in 2015. (Yes, I know, not all that new - but there is so much whisky and I am but one lonely nerd working my way through the piles).

All I know about this bottling, other than the age and ABV is that it has been matured in American oak casks.

You can buy the Glen Scotia 15 YO in Norway at NOK 800 (10506801), in Sweden at SEK 649 (8584001), and in the UK at around GBP 55.

Nose: Vanilla ice-cream served with strawberries. Sun-ripened oranges. Mild oakiness with a touch of salt. Toffee and fruit candy with a light coating of dust.

Taste: Full-bodied and packing a spicy punch. White pepper, raw ginger, cinnamon and vanilla. Apples and mixed citrus fruits. Light honey. A touch floral.

Finish: Medium to long finish. More creamy now. Still spicy, now with a pinch of salt. But the fruitiness does grow and balances the spices better in the end.

Comment: A complex and enjoyable Campbeltown dram.
