Glengoyne 18 YO
Glengoyne 18 YO, 43 %
I have now worked my way through most of the core range from the Highland distillery Glengoyne. I have previously reviewed the 10 YO, Cask Strength, 15 YO, 21 YO and 25 YO. Time now for the Glengoyne 18 YO.
This product was released about three years ago, and replaced the 17 YO in the core range. The Glengoyne 18 YO has been matured in a mix of refill and 1st fill ex-sherry casks
You can buy the Glengoyne 18 YO in Norway at NOK 1095 (279701), in Sweden at SEK 949 (8532401), and online in the UK at around GBP 62.
Nose (21/25): Fruity and rich on the nose. Soft maltiness and hints of oak. Given a few minutes in the glass I also pick up some vanilla, apricots, and more dried fruits.
Taste (22/25): A bit more spicy than I anticipated, but it's a good thing. Pepper, ginger, and something a bit more exotic - but I cannot really describe it. A touch of oak.
Finish (22/25): Long and rich finish. More or less continues as it started. The ginger becomes more pronounced, with a slight nuttiness and the pepper. Some caramel and honey, as well as something vaguely Christmas-y.
Balance (21/25): A well-balanced and solid Highlander.
Score (86/100)
