High Coast Mountains 01 - Multråberget, 8 YO, 51%

This is the first of four new expressions from High Coast, Sweden, building on their peated core range product Berg (Swedish for mountain). Peated to 45 ppm, initially matured for over five years in 200L 2nd fill ex-bourbon casks, and then finished for close to three years in 250L ex-PX casks. Limited to 6000 bottles.

The High Coast Mountains 01 - Multråberget is available to buy in Sweden at SEK 799 (41623).

Nose: Deep and rich with fruity undertones, beautifully intertwined with robust maltiness. A delicate veil of dry wood smoke adds complexity.

Taste: Full-bodied and delightfully rough around the edges, exuding charm typical of a peated whisky. Layers of soot, wood smoke, and earthy peat dominate, followed by black and white pepper. Raisins—dry yet flavorful—emerge alongside cinnamon and caramel.

Finish: Medium long. The dryness gives way to a richer profile of dried fruits like figs, dates, and raisins. Dark chocolate and hints of leather provide a satisfying and robust conclusion.

Comment: A charismatic peated whisky.
