Jameson 18 YO Master Selection
Jameson 18 YO Master Selection, 40 %
This is one of the oldest whiskies from Jameson. The Jameson 18 YO Master Selection is a limited release. There are two 18 YOs in the core range as well; the Jameson 18 YO and the Jameson Bow Street 18 YO (cask strength).
The Jameson 18 YO Master Selection has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks. The regular version is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
You can buy this whiskey in Norway at NOK 1005 (4611501). It did sell at around GBP 100 in the UK, but appears to be sold out now.
Nose: Refined and relaxed, and quite delicate. This is your first, or possibly second dram, for the evening. Do not leave this for last - then you will miss out. There is a lot of complexity here, but it is a fragile construct. Dried fruits and red berries, with a base of roasted malt, toasted oak, and chocolate.
Taste: Medium to thin body, and relatively low on sweetness. Still a fair bit of oakiness and dried fruits, but I also detect citrus now - mandarins and orange zest.
Finish: Medium long finish. Even oakier now, and it appears to be more dry. The oranges have turned slightly bitter and have been joined by notes of grapefruit. The sweetness is all but gone. Yet it continues to play on several layers. Complex and engaging.
Comments: A fine, old dram.
