OK, time for the classic, annual Special Release of Lagavulin 12 YO. This whisky has been matured in refill American oak casks. That’s all we know, really, oh and it is bottled at natural cask strength.

The Lagavulin 12 YO (Special Releases 2021) is available in Norway at NOK 1600 (13734501).

Nose: A “dry” nose, giving off aromas of leather, toasted oak, burnt driftwood and smoked meat. Pinches of salt and pepper. Riverbed rocks and peat.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Peppery soot, sugary sweet ashes, and dry wood smoke. Lurking in the back I also find citrus and hints of grapefruit.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Lighter and fruitier on the finish. Sea water and a soft nuttiness. Smoked bacon and a roaring beach side bonfire.

Comment: Now we’re talkin'. Love a classic Lagavulin like this.
