Method & Madness Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Method & Madness Single Malt Irish Whiskey, 14 YO, 46 %

This Irish single malt whisky is a product of Midleton distillery in Cork. The label actually does provide some insight into how this whiskey was created as it states “Matured in bourbon barrels, and enhanced with French Limousin oak casks”.

On the product page we see that by “enhanced” they mean finished. Then when I read the press release fro back when it says “[..] matured in American bourbon barrels and features a parcel of whiskey enhanced with Limousin oak”; which I assume means that only part of the component whiskey in this product has been finished in Limousin oak, not all.

The product page also says this whiskey was distilled in 2002, which means it is at least 14 years old.

This product was launched back in 2017, and I have no idea why I have not reviewed it earlier.

The Method & Madness Single Malt Irish Whiskey is available in Norway at NOK 590 (13834001). It is actually more expensive in the UK at around GBP 68.

Nose: Breakfast cereal, vanilla and hints of citrus. Honey and assorted nuts as well. With time the citrus is a more specific lemon zest, and the honey becomes floral.

Taste: Full bodied and creamy. The palate closely matches the nose. Vanilla, cereal, nuts, honey and again the mild citrus.

Finish: Medium long finish. More of the same, but is still develops. The vanilla and creaminess combines and we have lovely lemon flavoured vanilla ice cream, with a tropical fruit topping.

Comment: Delightful Irish whiskey!
