Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength (B2/19)
Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength (B2/19), 55.8 %
Ah, finally we get the amazing Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength to Norway, and finally it truly makes sense for me to review this great single pot still whiskey.
The Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength is of course triple distilled, at Midleton Distillery in Cork, Ireland. It is made 50 % malted barley and 50 % unmalted barley, and has been matured in a mix of ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry seasoned European oak butts.
This product is released in two batches annually, and I have here tasted batch B2/19. The ABV does vary a little between batches.
The Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength (B2/19) goes on sale in Norway this Monday at the bargain price of NOK 700 (12313201). You can also get it in the UK at the considerable higher price of GBP 94.
Nose: Bread crust and barley. Vanilla sugar, icing sugar and hints of strawberries. Light, delicate and fruity. With time also hints of fudge.
Taste: Full bodied and creamy in character. Strawberry and vanilla ice cream with butterscotch sauce, and a sprinkling of nuts and marzipan. Chocolate with tiny flakes of chili.
Finish: Medium to long finish. So delicate, elegant and balanced. You hardly notice the high ABV at all.
Comment: This is a dram for the soul.
