Ron Colón Salvadoreño

Ron Colón Salvadoreño, NAS, 55.5 %

I have tested a few new rums, and first off we have the Ron Colón Salvadoreño. This rum is made using a blend of aged column-still rum from the Licorera Cihuatan Distillery in El Salvador, unaged Jamaican rum from Worthy Park, Hampden and Monymusk, as well as a small portion of aged rum from Worthy Park.

From the official website have learned that the distillery Licorera Cihuatán is a part of Ingenio La Cabaña of El Salvador, one of the largest and oldest sugar producers in the country. The distillery has been producing since 2004. The rums aged in Licorera Cihuatán have around 8% angel share per year. The Master Distiller and blender is Gabriella Ayala. For now this rum is bottled in the Netherlands, but the aim is to start bottling in in El Salvador starting 2021.

The Ron Colón Salvadoreño is available in UK at around GBP 36.

Nose: Funky and fruity. Quite vegetal - it’s like being at a farmer’s market. With time the vegetable are joined by fruits like banana and pineapple. Solid, earthy and funky sweetness.

Taste: Full bodied, sweet and funky. Let the Autumn Harvest party start!

Finish: Short finish. It falls flat fairly quickly - although there are very soft residual notes of sugary funkiness.

Comment: A big and bold rum with just the right level of funkiness.

Score 87/100
