I have previously reviewed the Ron Colón Salvadoreño (no coffee), and here we have the same product with added coffee infusion.

The rum blend is as follows:

  • 6 YO column-distilled Salvadoran rum produced by Licorera Cihuatán distillery.

  • Unaged pot-distilled Jamaican rum produced by Worthy Park, Hampden and Monymusk distilleries

  • 3 YO Jamaican pot-distilled rum produced by Worthy Park estate.

  • All rums in the blend are aged at source

The coffee used is Jags Head coffee, which has been grown by a dedicated family for over 150 years. The coffee beans are from the El Ciprés region of El Salvador, grown at 1700 meters elevantion next to El Salvador’s famous Santa Ana volcano. Whole coffee beans are cold-infused in the rum for 48 hours before we have the final product.

The Ron Colón Salvadoreño Coffee is available in the UK at around GBP 40. If we are lucky we might get a few bottles to Norway shortly.

Nose: It is certainly close to its non-coffee infused brother, with banana and pineapple fruitiness as well as a solid sweetness. Delicate coffee notes slowly enter and take over more and more - in a good way.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Ooh, the coffee notes are certainly front and center on the palate, and it works a perfect charm, I must say. Sure, the pineapple, the banana, and the sugary sweetness is here, but the coffee notes add a new dimension to great effect.

Finish: Medium long finish. Drier towards the end.

Comment: Wow! This might not be a fine, old, traditional rum, but what the heck. I love this combo!
