Tamdhu is a relatively unknown distillery to me, and I have previously only reviewed independent bottlings from this Speyside distillery. Tamdhu was established in 1897, and lived on until 2010 when it was closed. Then in 2011 Ian Macleod Distillers bought the distillery, and it was re-opened in 2013.

This Tamdhu 10 YO was released in 2012, as part of the re-launch. It has been matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks, and 75 % of the casks are 1st fill casks.

You cannot purchase the Tamdhu 10 YO in Norway yet, but in Sweden you can pick up a bottle at SEK 449 (48201), and in the UK it is available at just above 30 GBP.

Nose (20/25): Apples - ripe apples, I would say. I get an Autumn feel from this dram. It is cool, very fruity, and sherried on the nose. I also pick up vanilla, soft spices and a touch of oak.

Taste (20/25): Mild and soft mouthfeel. Easy-drinking. Apples and soft spices again.

Finish (19/25): Medium long finish. It does get a bit dryish towards the end. A touch more oak influence now, as well as some cinnamon.

Balance (19/25): Easy and relatively simple.
