Teeling 13 YO The Revival Volume II
Teeling 13 YO The Revival Volume II, 46 %
I continue exploring the fine whiskeys from Teeling. This time I'm reviewing a whisky that was distilled in 2002, matured for 12 years in bourbon barrels. It was then transferred to ex-Calvados casks for a one year finish, before being bottled in 2016. The total outturn was limited to 10 000 bottles.
Here is the official blurb on the Teeling 13 YO The Revival Volume II from Teeling:
"Consists of 13 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 2002 initially matured in Bourbon barrels for the first 12 Years before it was given an extra years maturation in ex-Calvados casks. Bottled at 46% with no chill filtration creates a truly unique Irish whiskey taste experience."
The Teeling 13 YO The Revival Volume II sold at around GBP 83, but appears to be sold out now. However, there is a new Revival out - at 14 years of age. Must make sure to try that one as well.
Nose: Soft, earthy notes and baked apples. Vanilla, roasted coconut, cinnamon and butterscotch. Soo much butterscotch on the nose once it opens up a bit more. Warm, sweet embrace!
Taste: Rich and creamy mouthfeel. White pepper and slightly floral honey sprinkled on baked apples. Vanilla ice-cream with creamy caramel sauce.
Finish: Medium to long finish. The Ice-cream and caramel sauce really does linger, and it is delicious. A touch of burnt caramel at the end.
Comments: This is a delight. Especially the nose is mesmerizing.
