Whisky Castle Bridge

Whisky Castle Bridge, NAS, 40 %

From time to time we vacation in Albania, and last year I came across Albanian whisky for the first time. Naturally I had to try this, and now I can finally present my findings to you dear reader. I have tried two Albanian whiskies, both produced by the Aquila Group. This company was established in 1992, and they produce a wide range of products including various types of Raki, wines, fruit creams, distillates, and traditional Albanian drinks.

The Whisky Castle Bridge is a blended whisky, and no further information is available - anywhere.

Nose: The nose offers a sweet blend of vanilla and banana, underscored by softer notes of grain and malt. Intriguing hints of white pepper and Tiger Balm make an appearance, with a trace of petrol in the backdrop.

Taste: Medium body. The palate veers into the unusual, decidedly herbal with a strong resemblance to Tiger Balm muscle rub, featuring everything from menthol to eucalyptus, clove, camphor, and paraffin.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Balancing light fruitiness and peppery notes. It evolves to a dryer character with a scent of inexpensive perfume, the Tiger Balm note persisting till the end.

Comment: This whisky presents a pleasant nose, but the palate is somewhat peculiar, reflecting its youth and lack of coherence.
