Mosgaard Peat & Port

Mosgaard Peat & Port, NAS, 58.2 %

Here’s another single cask bottling from Danish distiller Mosgaard Whisky. It was initially matured in an ex-bourbon cask, then finished in a 64 litre quarter cask made using staves from an ex-port wine cask. Bottled 2022-06-14, with a total outturn of 98 bottles.

This whisky was bottled exclusively for whisky.dk in 50 cl bottles and is still available to buy at DKK 749.

Nose: Wood smoke with hints of barbecue. Then orchard fruits. Then pepper and creamy vanilla, toasted oak and rich caramel sauce.

Taste: Full bodied, rough and adventurous. Some spiciness - pepper mainly - but also a rich and creamy fruitiness. Medium sweetness. Hints of green herbs.

Finish: Medium long finish. The peat comes through more now - dark chocolate, soot and toasted oak. Hint of peppermint, oak and tomato vine.

Comment: Well color me charmed and impressed!
