Here is another first for me, a whisky from Strathcona Spirits, Alberta, Canada. This whisky was bottled for Alberta Scotch Society.

Here is the description of the Strathcona SPirits Dreamland Prairie:

“Frontier-style Canadian Wheat Whisky; aged 44 months in a double-barrel routine. First rest on Virgin American Oak, then finished with a splash of rye, in Cognac and Armagnac casks from the south of France.”

Nose: Strawberries and classic fruit cocktail in simple syrup are followed by a hint of Tiger Balm, with menthol and eucalyptus notes. Earthy undertones emerge, along with wet leaves, rhubarb, cucumber, and mustard seeds as time passes.

Taste: Medium-bodied and full of complexity, this whisky defies categorization. It’s a blend of sweet, unsweet, dry, juicy, rough, and smooth elements. Waves of flavor clash and create a cacophony that challenges the taste buds. It's not unpleasant, just a bewildering mix.

Finish: Medium-long, gaining some coherence with a light sweetness and exotic spices. A rough oakiness transitions to notes of wood lacquer and paraffin.

Comment: A weird enigma!

Score 78/100

Big thanks to Even S. for the sample!
